Conclusions
To conclude, we return to the beginning (Theoretical
foundation and evolution of the Club movement).
These are the requirements which the theory of alcohol related problems
should fulfil.
1. Clarify etiology of the problem.
2. Explain the possibility of early diagnosis, not only for the
professionals, but also for the community health workers.
3. Describe the early therapeutic or treatment procedures.
4. Offer the treatment possibilities which can give acceptable results.
5. The theory should give the possibility to organise the territorial network
of supporting points for the protection and the promotion of the health in the
community and especially for the primary protection of the alcohol-related and
complex problems.
6. The cost-benefit analysis of the proposed program should be acceptable.
7. The care ought to be easily accessible for all members of the community.
8. The theory should be included as a improvement of University teaching,
postgraduate training and continuos education for all professional and primary
health workers.
The degree to which our social-ecological approach is
consistent with these requirements is open to discussion, but it seems to us
that most of the requirements are satisfied.
The social-ecological approach is based on the work of clubs, autonomous
multifamily communities with a maximum of 12 families. It addresses the persons
and family as a system, not a sick person and his or her pathology. Alcohol
related and complex problems are viewed as a lifestyle, a behaviour pattern
provoked in many ways, we might say an anthropo-spiritually provoked behaviour.
In the Clubs the “cure” for this are friendship, love and solidarity.
